Have you ever found a rock in the water and it was so bright and beautiful? I find watercolor paintings to be somewhat the same...they look great wet but yet lack that brightnes once dry. I struggled with how to retain the brighness of the wet painting and finally figured out a way that not only caputred the brightness of wet paint but made the painting itself a lighter weight less likely to be damaged piece of work!
I have turned away from the traditional ideas of all watercolor paintings having to be behind glass. My finished paintings are mounted on an acrylic painted canvas and a protective UV varnish is applied. I wanted more textures to be seen and felt and under glass you loose so much. I use other mediums in my watercolors such as inks, pastels, acrylics, resists and salt. The effects are not your common everyday soft and delicate watercolor. This is my innovative and progressive way to show my work!
